Bay nuts are the tiny fruit you find hanging from the bay tree. The bay nut resembles its cousin the avocado. Similarly to the avo, the fruit of the bay has a window of tastiness. The nut inside the bay fruit, however can be a tasty treat!
After picking a bunch of bay fruit, I pluck out the nut and eat the good fruit. Roast the nut in a 350° oven till the nut inside the shell is a dark brown. Then I shell all of the roasted nuts (easier to shell after roasting) and grind them up. The taste is bitter chocolate, coffee with a hint of bay.
I made gravy out of the batch I made, YUM!
