My sweet dear housemate was robbed at gun point a block from our west Oakland castle. I say castle 'cause it's a huge old Victorian all to ourselves, for cheap rent in a gritty part of town. In my imagination we are surrounded by a moat with an iron drawbridge and skeleton keys to open heavy old doors.
She's tough so she shook through the shock. But safety is important for the nervous system to regenerate at night whilst she lay her head a block away from the incident.
Scarcity. Scare City. We are in the colder part of this year, a time when robbery is high. Where people will take and threaten and steal.
I went a lecture about degeneration. About how urban living and the quality of life lived in cities effects human evolution. Dev Rana offered a wealth of knowledge and research on the urban diet. How children born from mothers who ate poorly had health challenges. That it takes 7 generations for these negative effects to move through the cellular knowledge passed from mother to babe.
Makes me about think how I can support my health and the health of others as we walk through this hustle and bustle of fast paced living. What kind of armor is necessary to maintain sanity as our technology and population grows.
I eat well, I have a healthy regiment, I frequent nature. My newest challenge is to be calm in the middle of the madness. I won't let the fear of scarcity rob me from my own optimism. Instead I will utilize it as fuel as I propel myself. Continuing to support the health of my growing community; encouraging the awareness of beauty - inner and outer. Supporting the pursuit of a satisfying purpose that nourishes the soul and adds value to the community our community even the thief. We are all connected. I will encourage a greater ripple of healthful happiness.
Finding beauty in the dandelion that pushes through the cracks. To remind us of our wild inherent nature. Offering us wishes to build happy futures on.
Let's dream bigger together.
