Ode to Selkies Everywhere
What if history has it all wrong?
It isn't that the man captures the selkie by hiding her seal skin.
No. I think,
she willingly unpeels her pelt
lets it drop to solid ground
savors the sweetness of his touch
spawning a clan of bi-lingual little ones.
Her work is done, she re-enters her original skin
slips back in the kelp filled bay
allowing history to be wrong again,
she slides back and forth between sea and land,
seal and skin, salt and sweet,
holding the choice
in her own hands.
